Four talented musicians from different musical and cultural backgrounds meet to create entirely new material. That’s the formula for Jammin’, a project that has been running for the past year as a permanent project by ROSA – The Danish Rock Council.
As a part of the opening of SPOT Festival 2015 many of the musicians reunite to perform the material they created when they last worked together on Jammin’.
The musicians:
Kaspar Kaae aka. Cody (vocals & guitar): Kaspar Kaae is known as singer and songwriter in the acclaimed Danish band CODY, who in the recent years have enjoyed great success both at home and abroad. Traditional song writing has always occupied a special place in the songwriter’s heart. Icons like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen are major sources of inspiration for the songs Kaspar has written and performed solo concurrently with his work in CODY. Jesper Krogsgård from the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende writes, ”Kaspar is a brilliant songwriter, a true star in my opinion”.
Fuat Talay (saz & baglama): Fuat Talay sings and plays traditional Turkish and Kurdish music and has toured in both Europe and Africa. In recent years he has played baglama backing artists such as the famous Kurdish singer Siwan Perwer. Furthermore, he has played with the diva of traditional Turkish music Sabahat Akkiraz and the Danish-based Arabian singer Aida Nadeems ”arabtronic” band. In 2004 he released an album in cooperation with Sweedish Efkar Ensemble, and in 2008 he released ”Sufisticated”.
Deniz Ozan Öksüz (saz & vocal): Deniz Ozan is out of a musical family and got his first saz at age six. At age ten he began receiving proper training – but he describes himself as ”mostly self-taught”. He was a part of the talent programme at The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg, RAMA and is now doing a three-year musical education. The saz is a lute-like instrument known for it’s characteristic crisp and metallic sound.
Dísa (vocal & keyboard): The Copenhagen-based Icelander Disa Jacobs captivates the listener with her angelic voice and a gloomy synth soundscape. With a background in a music tradition that favours the vocals Disa creates symphonic and picturesque compositions that transcend all musical boundaries. She is compared to the likes of Björk and Kate Bush, but Disa is one of a kind.
Extra:
Simon Meinert (drums): Drummer in One-Eyed Mule.
